PMI Statement on Crisis in Ukraine

News

At Project Management Institute (PMI), we are deeply concerned and saddened by the events unfolding in Eastern Europe resulting in the tragic loss of life and unwanted destruction of Ukraine. Our thoughts, hearts, prayers, and sympathy are with the people of Ukraine and their families globally. We stand in solidarity with the people of Ukraine and Eastern Europe.

For more than 50 years, we have cultivated an increasingly diverse and inclusive community of members, chapters, volunteers, and certification holders. In alignment with our core values, we are committed to making the world a better place through project management. Our purpose has not changed, and we will continue to support our entire global community during times of need and crisis.

We recognize the power and passion of our community and embrace taking action to support impacted regions. We have created a community for Chapter Leaders to enable them to support those affected by the crisis by connecting and collaborating on ideas with colleagues from around the globe. We are activating existing or new alliances with worldwide humanitarian organizations such as the United Nations, Junior Achievement, and Red Cross, to support relief efforts. And we are encouraging PMI community members with interest and the ability to connect with humanitarian organizations to volunteer their time and expertise to relief efforts.

Our spirit and passion to advocate for the project management industry and project professionals throughout the world will continue to thrive during this time of need and crisis. There is much to be done and we appreciate the efforts of all those who join us in support of our entire global community.

Ways our Global Community Can Be Supportive During This Time of Crisis

Pledge Hours for Impact

At the heart of PMI’s community is the ability and desire to work alongside one another to drive change. Many project professionals worldwide are already volunteering and others have asked for ways they can contribute.

Open to anyone who wants to volunteer, Hours for Impact supports the United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to make an impact in the world around us, now and in the future. As a for-purpose organization, PMI is dedicated to enabling project professionals and changemakers worldwide to use their project management skillsets to create positive impact on society and we invite our community to volunteer hours in order to advance the SDGs. In this time of need and crisis, hours volunteered for SDG goals such as Quality Education and Reduced Inequalities in impacted areas will directly support those affected.

Donate to Junior Achievement Europe

Aligned to SDG goals that will help give support to the people of Ukraine impacted, PMI Educational Foundation (PMIEF) is taking on a special initiative with its partner Junior Achievement Europe (JA Europe).

Your donations to JA Europe will provide needed assistance during these troubling times, including:

  • Engaging business volunteers at the local level to support the educational path of young Ukrainians who are currently in temporary locations
  • Translating material from local language into Ukrainian and/or provide interpretation services
  • Providing IT materials and equipment (tablets/phones), books, stationaries and educational toys
  • Partnering with local humanitarian assistance organization for comprehensive support
  • Allocating specific staff to focus on the refugee crisis
